Robin Hofmann is an award-winning writer, director and producer. She started producing content to spread awareness and highlight individuals who may not have had a voice otherwise. Prior to getting into film, Robin earned her degree in Psychology and spent 27 years working with individuals with disabilities. Her film journey began with an online baking show focusing on gluten free recipes and spreading awareness on disabilities. Shortly after, she began interviewing “ordinary people with extraordinary stories” on her online talk show, Chat with Me. These experiences brought her to the art of filmmaking where she began writing, producing and directing independent films.

Gluten is a Joke is a thoughtful and timely documentary that examines how gluten-free living has become a punchline in modern pop culture and the real harm behind the humor.
Through personal stories and community voices, the film sheds light on individuals living with conditions like Celiac disease and other medically required gluten-free lifestyles. It reveals how constant jokes, skepticism, and social stigma can lead to isolation, misunderstanding, and even risks to people’s health.
Rather than condemning humor, Gluten is a Joke explores a more nuanced question: how can we laugh without causing harm? The documentary invites audiences to rethink the cultural narrative, encouraging empathy, awareness, and more responsible comedy that respects lived experiences.
